Type: Lady's diamond engagement ring

Description: 18k yellow gold "sculpted" ring in the style or Auguste Rodin's "Eternal Springtime" sculpture, with approx. 2.00ct round brilliant cut diamond set in die-struck platinum 6-prong "Tiffany" crown.

Method: Client brought in reproduction of Rodin sculpture from which pictures were taken and design directions discussed (see top left). The design objective was to have the essence of this sculpture produced into a ring design that would hold a 2.00ct diamond. My suggestion was to produce a "bas relief" representation of the sculpture's front-most imagery which could be reproduced on each side (shoulder) of the ring, presenting the diamond in a 6-prong crown, top and center on the finger.

A wax carving of one side of the ring was produced and cast in sterling silver (see top right). This section was pre-finished preforming additional detail carving in the metal using various hand and flex-shaft tools. After pre-finising, the single side piece was reproduced via a vulcanized rubber molding and subsequent wax injections to get 2 identical replicas. These 2 wax replicas were then assembled into a single wax ring and cast in 18k yellow gold. Once the ring was cast, final finishing and detailing, along with assembly of the crown was accomplished (see middle left & right). The finish stage entailed setting the diamond in the platinum crown and final detailing (see bottom). Finishing details included final detail sculpting, garnet bead-blasting for texture, and "brightening" of hair on each figure through the use of polished engraving tools.
