2002

12/29/02 - Another road trip finished. Just a quick trip back to AR to visit my daughter. While on the road for some 30 plus hours (twice), I became fascinated with the roadside memorials one sees along the way. Not to go into detail about the fascination here, but to just state that Roadside MemorialI started collecting images of these little memorials to loved ones who lost their lives in roadway accidents. I've posted them to the Virtual Heart pages and will continue to update the images as I collect more. A "letter" in progress I guess you'd say.

12/19/02 - Update to client list.

Other updates of the last several weeks:

10.25.02 - Finally decided it was time to prepare a Style Guide for use by myself and any associates doing work with me. Maybe it'll also become a resouce for some of our clients! It all started when I just couldn't seem to get consensus on the proper spelling of "nonprofit." In asking around, I got "nonprofit," "non-profit," "non profit"... and everybody seemed to think they were the seat of accuracy. Turns out Merriam-Webster only shows "nonprofit." There. Thanks to Claudia Snowden for point that out. Think I'll let that be the final work, although I notice that seveal clients have their own preference which will have to supercede my Style Guide when that happens. It'll be a work in progress for some time yet, as I want to add a lot more to it than just editorial styles. Want to get some cursory info in regarding compatibility issues, coding standards, imaging styles and standard, etc.

PS: if you're using any versions of Netscape browsers before the lates Mozilla/NSv6.x on a Mac, the "Last updated:" date will give you some odd date in 1932! Go figure. Works everywhere else though.

10.23.02 - Another month practically... and here's the deal: Left the Bay area Sept. 30 to drive to Oklahoma and Arkansas. Another visit the daughter trip. Worked in a 4 day trip to Dallas and Wichita Fall, Texas last week and am now getting ready to turn around and go back to CA. My ISP added/changed their Web server last weekend, causing a little downtime, but it went pretty smoothly. Was able to get a wireless router onto the cable connection here in Arkansas and get right up on line. Really didn't lose much connection time at all, and have been able to continue servicing clients the entire time I've been here. I love this wireless stuff! Also managed to find a connection point and a client's office here in Arkanasas (Springdale) so I've got options. Gotta love those options!

Have met with a few potenetial clients here in Arkansas. Seems there's a definate need here for someone locally oriented to take care of the many non profits in the area... some 350 just in this little 2 county area. There's really not much choice for these organizations in terms of either hosting services or development services. Pause for thought... ok, I'm back. Will have to see what I can spawn in business connections here.

09.26.02 - After researcing ISPs, I found Presage-Designs. It's a full service host and ISP with several really good packages of hosting configurations. A UNIX-based host, they have the control panel, cgi/pl scripts, Webmail, and multi-domain hosting capabilities I'm looking for. Have now got conzz.com moved and the DNS numbers pointing in the right direction — that's always dicey. Email took a while to get working correctly and, though I hoped for a seamless changeover, I had about 1 day (10 hrs.) of down time and may have lost some emails in the process. Fortunately, it was a fairly quiet day, so I'll assume nothing critical was lost. Turns out, my older email client (I was still using an older version of Netscape4.7 for email) just wasn't up to the task of handling a POP3 account, so the tedious process of exporting/importing historical email folders and address books finally HAD to happen. I'm now using the new Mozilla browser (v1.1) for email and main browser on my Mac G4 laptop. I like it a lot, and not having to work back and forth between OSX and Classic so much (Netscape 4.7 only runs on Classic!) is a great improvemnt in work flow.

Now the Network Solutions wars ensue... trying to finish up changing the DNS addresses in the profile of one last domain. NetSol can ruin the best of days! They make altering any account a bloody nightmare. The next thing I'll do, once I've got the DNSs pointing in the right direction and my Admin profile updated is to move it off of the NetSol registry. Tucows registry services seems a much better way to manage DNS and Admin profiles for domain name accounts.

09.19.02 - New site's up and running well. Favorable reviews, and the addition of testimonials seems to be a good marketing instrument. Had several comments on the portfolio being impressive. Starting to research moving from the old ISP to a new, more robust one. My current ISP is lacking in some of the functional support I'm needing more and more, plus the cost seems higher than necessary given the number of far lower cost ISPs out there. Not sure what to do about my DSL coverage though. Researching that as well.

08.13.02 - OK, it's done and uploaded. Now time to go through and catch all the errors, typos, etc. Thanks to friends, several have already been corrected.

08.12.02 - Gettin' close! Most of the new site is ready to go... just have to go back through the pages that are staying in the mix and update headers, footers, navigation, etc.

08.01.02 - Road trip!!! Was a great one, and followed by another to Yosemite. 'S'been a good summer... not unlike those of youth.

So, now I'm faced with some extra time on my hands (clients on vacation, economy dragging, etc.) and have decided it's time for that next upgrade of the conzz.com site. This one won't be so pervasive, but a lot of work none the less, so I'm looking at Sept. for the publishing date. Will try to make use of as much current design and functionality as possible, while repurposing (don't you just hate that word now?) content and making the site more Seidel & Associates-centric. In onother words... watch this space!

Also, just went live with www.tomalesbay.net.

06.26.02 - Holy moly... I can't believe it's been this long since I've been in here. Been busy, I guess... Just updated the "view" (note: no longer available - cs/08/17/02) page. Lots of out of date links there. The Web just keeps webbing, and so many sites are falling by the way side. Some you might expect, but some, like Linda Cox's "Just Another Marketing Guru" site are sorely missed. Too bad.

Getting ready for another drive across country to Arkansas and back. Still no satelite up-link (ha ha ha) so I can stay connected as I'm moving, but I'm one step closer with Apple's Airport card in my laptop... now I just have to walk into a wireless-connected Internet Cafe or most any airport and can just log on... ain't it cool? I'm still waiting for the digital implant though.

I've spent quite a lot of time and money on my car so hopefully I won't have another incident like last time on the road. Wish me luck...

04.01.02 - More updates to portfolio.

03.31.02 - Updates to Web design projects portfolio... more to follow.

03.17.02 - Added new graphics samples to the Portfolio page, Misc. Graphics.

02.26-27.02 - Added Douglas's résumé (deactivated). A pretty good template design for an online résumé/portfolio slide show that can be re-implemented efficiently for another client.

02.15.02 - Update client list (portfolio) to show Western Water Alliance as new client.

02.10.02 - Update client list (portfolio).

01.28.02 - Added new projects to the portfolio. Updates added to Resume.

01.13.02 - Added a new letter to the Virtual Heart pages (still beating... Letter to Michael). Michael Ruth, a dear friend, died last Wednesday. He will be missed.
